Mayan child from the Indian village of Red Bank

" ...the children beg for bread, but no one gives it to them." (La 4:4)

Hi friends, I'm Chuck Kleffman. For the last two years, I've worked and lived in Belize, Central America. I really love this country! I love the peace and serenity and the awesome beauty of the rainforest and the Maya Mountains. I love the awesomeness of the Caribbean Sea and the Barrier Reef. There's nothing quite like snorkeling the largest reef in the northern hemisphere, or swimming with nurse sharks and stingrays at Shark Ray Alley. I love visiting the ancient cities of the Mayans. But with all that Belize has to offer, it's none of these things that I love most about this nation. What I love most about Belize are the people of Belize.

There is no feeling quite like the feeling that I get when I drive through a village and I hear both children and adults wave and shout to me as I pass by, "Hi Pastor Chuck!" or sometimes the children call me Mr. Chuck and Brother Chuck. One child even calls me Father Chuck. Ha Ha. And all the children ask the same question: "Are we having church tonight Pastor Chuck?"

Yes, it's the Belizean people that I love so very much. They brought me in and accepted me and made me feel like I was a Belizean too. No one seemed to notice that the color of our skin was different. No one noticed that our accent or our language was different too. They all accepted me and loved me. And I love them.

I spent the last two years working as the director of the Assemblies of God Camp & Conference Center in Ontario Village. And in my spare time, I began two new meetings. One at the center in Ontario Village and the other in Camalote Village. I also assisted in a new work in Belmopan, the capital city. All of these meetings are in western Belize. All of these meetings are reaching people for the cause of Christ and changing lives forever. Hallelujah!

I'm back in the states now. I'm visiting supporting churches and telling of the wonderful things God has been doing in Belize. Please pray diligently for me as I raise financial and prayerful support to return to Belize as quickly as possible and continue the work that God has called me to.

If you can pray for me, or if you can financially partner with me, or if you're a Pastor and would like me to do a missions service in your church, please see the contact information below.

There is much work to do in Belize. And it's up to us to bring hope to the hopeless. It's our responsibility to offer them Jesus. We need to throw a "LifeLine" to those that are drowning. Together, we can and we are making a difference in Belize. Thank you so much.  May God richly bless you!

The Garifuna of Belize

The Garifuna: Weaving a future from a tangled past.

Herded aboard slave ships in West Africa, a group of Garífuna forebears were likely destined for New World mines and plantations when they wrecked off St. Vincent in 1635. They found refuge with the islands Carib Indians, immigrants from South America.

The two peoples blended through marriage, creating the Garífuna culture--Caribbean fishing and farming traditions with a mixture of South American and African music, dance, and spirituality.
